The essential difference between a slurry pump and a mud pump is the material of the flow parts. The slurry pump is made of wear-resistant high-chromium alloy while the mud pump is made of cast iron. Are there any other differences between them? Let’s find out together.
1. The conveyed media are different. Mud pumps are relatively early pumps. They are generally made of cast iron and have low wear resistance. As an important part of drilling machinery, they can only be used to transport mud or slurry containing suspended particles. Slurry pumps are mainly used in the mining industry to transport slurry containing slag, and can also be used to transport mud. Since the flow-passing parts of the slurry pump are more susceptible to the impact, wear, corrosion, etc. of the slurry during the working process, the slurry pump is usually lined with wear-resistant materials, such as high-chromium alloy, rubber and other high-wear-resistant materials, thus forming Surface wear-resistant slurry pump. This can effectively reduce the wear inside the slurry pump. Therefore, the slurry pump can replace the mud pump, but the mud pump cannot replace the slurry pump.
2. Since the media transported by the two pumps are different, the fields of application will also be different. Slag pumps are mainly used in metallurgy, electric power, mining, coal, sewage treatment and other industrial sectors to convey slurries with solid particles, while mud pumps have always been mainly used in drilling, pharmaceuticals, brewing, and other industries.
