In the application of slurry pumps, we often pay attention to whether the temperature and vibration of the pump are normal, but we pay little attention to cavitation. However, cavitation is a potential hidden danger for slurry pumps under some important working conditions. So how to find out that cavitation has occurred in a warm slurry pump? Today, the slurry pump manufacturer is here to take you through it.
Cavitation generally occurs during the pumping process. This is a phenomenon that may cause great damage to the slurry pump and is a direct result of improper operating conditions.
At present, we realize that vaporization cavitation is a change caused by the change of too much force when the liquid passes through the impeller: when the liquid enters the pump chamber through the pump inlet, the pressure will drop slightly, and different pump models will have different drops. It's not fixed. The liquid enters the inlet of the impeller where a significant pressure drop will occur. If the pressure at the impeller inlet is lower than the vaporization pressure of the pumped liquid, the first change in the vaporization and cavitation process - the generation of bubbles - will occur.
When the bubbles are transported to the impeller blades under the action of the impeller's centrifugal force, they are immediately pressurized, and in a series of movements, the second change in the process occurs, which is the collapse of the bubbles. At the moment when the bubble bursts, the fluid surrounding the bubble will fill the cavity formed by the condensation and collapse of the bubble at high speed, generating a strong shock wave. Although one such impact is insignificant, their repeated occurrence can cause damage that far exceeds the resistance of most impeller materials, thus damaging it thousands of times.
The above are the reasons for the formation of cavitation. If you want to know more about slurry pumps, please feel free to call us!
