Precautions for use of frequency converters for horizontal slurry pumps

In order to match the speed of our horizontal slurry pump with the speed of the motor, we will use belt drive. However, some sites are not suitable for belt drive and must require direct drive. Then we need to use a variable frequency motor to match the pump speed. Matching, the frequency modulation of the variable frequency motor requires the use of a frequency converter. Today we are going to talk about the precautions for using the frequency converter.
In order for the universal frequency converter to operate safely and stably, it is very important to meet the operating environment requirements allowed by the universal frequency converter. To sum up: do not cause the operating environment of the general frequency converter to exceed the allowable temperature, and pay attention to the ventilation performance of the frequency converter cabinet. If the ambient temperature of the general inverter is too high, the electrical insulation will be reduced and the metal parts will be corroded. Dehumidification should be considered and the inverter should be prevented from condensation. Here are a few things we’ve summarized.
1. General-purpose inverters must be reliably grounded to ensure safe operation and effectively suppress electromagnetic interference. 2. General-purpose frequency converters are not suitable for voltage withstand tests and insulation resistance tests. When doing this, a 500V insulation resistance meter should be used to measure, and the number of shaking measurements should be reduced as much as possible. Before insulating, all external main power and control lines should be disconnected and the main circuit should be short-circuited; the insulation to ground should be guaranteed to be above 5 megohms. 3. When using a universal inverter to control a motor, it must be ensured that the motor has good ventilation conditions, and external ventilation and cooling measures must be taken if necessary. 4. When using a universal frequency converter to drive multiple motors, in addition to making the total running current of the motor less than the rated current of the universal frequency converter, at least the influence of the starting current of one motor must be calculated to avoid overcurrent tripping of the frequency converter. 5. The output side of the universal frequency converter cannot be connected to a capacitor compensation device to prevent the universal frequency converter from tripping due to over-current protection and even damaging the universal frequency converter.
